Welcome to Alex Sally's wildlife films

new!     Dawn chorus in dreamy spires
Everyone has heard the dawn chorus,  or the evening chorus if you don't do early mornings :)
A wonderful cocophony of sound made from an array of different birds but did you notice how different it is at this time of year?
Spring and we have some rather special visitors to the uk. Tiny birds who are easy to miss , they may not have the  striking plumage of some birds but these diminuitive visitors have something rather special up there sleeve!   Birds like the tiny blackcap have a song that is compared to nightingales. melodious and lyrical with a song so rolling it is like liquid sound falling from branches. In the backdrop of an underestimated local wildlife theatre I am going to try to capture these individuals on film..  Wish me luck! and please let me know how you think I got on...    Thanks for watching,   Alex Sally

"freeze frame" -18c in mid wales, the wildlife captured on film

-18c. "freeze frame" captures the big freeze on film!
I was keen to capture this incredible cold spell on film and also to "freeze" the tiny birds in the snow using high speed photography. Not easy! The camera didn't like the cold and I didn't work 100% either. :)
I took over 2000 photos and hours of film but eventually I managed to get a couple of shots I was after and the end result...a little film that captures our spell.
Remember this and my last film (goldfinches) serve as a good reminder as to how much the little birds especially rely on our help when the weather is like this..
I hope you enjoy watching..

  1. Love this short excursion into your beautiful wildlife reserve. Your presentation is very engaging and visceral; the next best thing to being there. Loved the tangible cold. Nothing quite like a snowy day with natures creatures and landscapes!

    Well done!
